We love ice cream, I mean who doesn’t? The problem is though that it is usually what we consider an “empty” food: Meaning, it contains little to no nutritional value, and is usually made with unhealthy ingredients like sugars, sweeteners and flavor enhancements.
So, how do we take care of our body while still curing that craving for ice cream on a hot summer day? Well,we just need to choose a healthy, wholesome ice cream that is every bit as delicious as normal ice cream. I’m a firm believer that just because something is healthy doesn’t mean it is boring, flavorless or uninspired.
This chocolate ice cream recipe that I’ve prepared for you today is the perfect choice!Once you try it, you will see that sugar is a completely unnecessary ingredients that only brings health problems. Not to mention that it just disguises the food’s real flavors.
Banana, natures best sweetener
If you choose a really ripe banana (the darkest one at the supermarket) you will realize all the sweetness it brings to a dish. Bananas are perfect for making desserts not only because of their sweetness but because of their creamy texture too.
Did you know that I always keep ripe bananas in my freezer?
Switching from sugar to natural sweeteners is a process that can take time. Many people have become used to consuming so much sugar in processed foods that they no longer appreciate the real taste of the food. This is why it is important to re-educate our palate, and trust me it is worth it.
The best topping so far
Cacao & Nuts chocolate covered peanuts are the perfect snack to take to the gym or to the countryside for a picnic, but finding other ways to use them in the kitchen has been a real discovery for me this summer. I use them on ice cream, in cakes, in oatmeal... and the results have been divine!
Su tamaño es grandísimo, comparado con los cacahuetes tradicionales, por lo que el resultado de esta copa de helado es casi escultórico y comparable a los helados de los cafés y heladerías más codiciados de los paseos marítimos.
They are huge compared to traditional peanuts, and the addition of them to this ice cream recipe definitely takes it up a notch. I must say it is as good or maybe better than your favorite local ice cream parlor.
